A Neon Yellow State of Mind!

So it's no news that neon has been taking over everything. And when I say everything - I really mean everything! Maybe it's the fact that I see neon everywhere why I have grown a certain love for neon, especially yellow! It's no mellow yellow - but I am still really digging the vibrancy of it all!

Style Files: Olivia Palermo

Here's the open truth about being a solo-preneur - you have so many irons in the fire, sometimes I swear you would forget to do the normal daily, required routines had it not been for your blackberry. You have to frequently remind yourself to calm down, take it easy, get some sleep, go to the manicurist, take a little time off, eat, mingle with friends, and of course, enjoy a few (whether at really sparse intervals) nicer things in life. One of my great admirations is the style of Olivia Palermo - very down to earth, beautiful, whimsical at times and very ladylike. Here are a few of my favorite inspirations for taking time to smell the roses!

Interior Love: Red, White and Much More..

It's been a while since I posted about interiors - actually, it's felt like forever. My goal is to transform this blog into a source of inspiration, not just for fashion, art, interiors, etc., but where readers can find inspiration for their daily lives, their businesses and a everything in between. So more and more you will find that the content on this blog will morph more into the latter. In the meantime, I saw this interior featured on Elle Decor under the red, white an blue section (even though July 4th seemed to have flew by like a milli-second) and I loved it for all the right reasons so I had to share. Can I say that this room certainly has the comfort factor, the upholstery, and the color! This living room of São Paulo–based designer Sig Bergamin’s Manhattan apartment features our lovely X benches, linen-covered chairs, and a velvet armchair which has a back upholstered in a Braquenié cotton. The photograph of Gisele Bündchen is by Michel Comte and the antique bone-inlaid screen was found in India and how can we miss the amazing wall treatments!

Hope you guys are having a great Wednesday!

Monday's Quote..

....ala my mother

"You have to commit to anything you do. Decide how badly you want it and commit to it. Give it your heart and soul. Never settle for less so never give less because to make a dream a reality, it takes perseverance."

So, today I share with you the little nugget that kept me working this weekend. Hope you have a wonderful day!

With the week almost behind us, it's always a great time to simply review the week - with all its highs and lows. Try not to be too hard on yourself because we all generally have more on our plates that we can manage. Have a wonderful weekend - I will be busy working and preparing for a busy next week! How about you?

Luxurious Bedding || Pillows || Textiles

One of the brands that I admire for their exquisite attention to detail is Ankasa. Now, just months after moving to a new Manhattan space on the Upper East Side, Ankasa–known for its luxurious bedding, pillows, and embroidered textiles—debuted its largest location to date in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. The lofty store is roughly double the size of its uptown sibling, and offers a larger inventory of its furniture and accessories, as well as interior design services. Check out their latest collection at ankasa.com.

The Style: Laura Cunningham

While reading over the weekend, I came across an article on Laura Cunningham (restauranteur and quite the do-it-all renaissance woman) and was intrigued by her business sense. As a restaurant consultant, she has evolved the feel of dining and has a few credits to boot. She has also perfected the decor and the functioning of the restaurants she owns (with her soon-to be hubby Thomas Keller) down to the last detail—from helping to develop custom Christofle silver flatware for Per Se to hiring a New York City Ballet alum to train the servers in spatial awareness and movement. And then, you see her style and you're equally as amazed. Women who strive for balance and can accomplish it all - my Monday Inspiration!

Taking Steps Towards Your Dreams!

This week has been a really crazy and tough. With new staff additions, new projects, and a to-do list the size of Texas, it has been really tough to stay motivated without being overwhelmed. With this in mind, I decided that I needed to meet with a few like minded entrepreneurs to discuss ways to balance work demands, tips to succeed and to get a jolt of energy. I attended the Tory Johnson's Spark and Hustle event and it was great!! And among the many things I learned, the one I share with you today is the most impactful - taking steps towards making it happen! It's no secret that everyone has different goals but what may be a surprise (or not) is that everyone wants to succeed at something and failure is still a seven letter word that has meaning to each of us. What seems to be the hardest is the courage to take the next step towards your dreams - see, dreams will never become a reality if they are only dreams (because this means that the only place they will reside would be in your head - and only you head). We all know what we want and to some extent we also know our potential so the hardest part is that you just have to believe it. If you choose not to take action because of the many things that happen - the things that are called life, then you are also abandoning yourself and those around you. Regardless of your dreams, the key is to take action. Just like you make a commitment to someone else, you have to make a commitment to yourself to get what you want. So if you never take a step, if you never plant any seeds, you will never be any closer to realizing those dreams!

until next time! have a great weekend!

Happy Tuesday - I'm Back!

I am finally back in the office like a normal person - it has been the hardest thing to stay put! I had a rather minor (or major depending on how one views it!) emergency on Friday that kept me in the bed for the entire weekend including most of yesterday. Having so much to do, I had to force myself to get up and get going and make use of those wonderful medications I was given by my lovely doctor. So happy Tuesday everyone! Hope you had a great weekend and welcome to what will be my best week ever! Not even the crazy, rainy weather here in Houston will put a damper on my plans.

The Wide Open Truth!

Yesterday, while my family and friends (well, at least some of my friends) were busy celebrating their fourth and having a blast, like they should - I was working, which seems to be the usual. With a new client of Studio Brand Collective on board and getting ready to launch their product lines, we had to do part I of a two part, full day photo shoot. It was long and tiring and I have aches in places that I didn't know could ache. And after having to tell a friend that I couldn't join her, friends and family for a night of fireworks and cocktails, it made me ask myself, "why am I working so hard?" Well, to answer that question I turned to a trusted friends and at the end of this conversation (or at least, a few seconds before I fell asleep while mumbling words of no general usefulness), I realized that I have a tremendous fear of failure. Quite honestly, this fear of failure has many long stemmed roots into my childhood but it is this fear that has propelled me to do as much as I do, even while I know I am pushing myself too hard. It is this fear that makes me three times as hard on myself than anyone else has ever been. And, it is this fear that will either make or break me. So, today I decided to leave by this (yet another) mantra. Happy Thursday!

do you have a fear of failure? does it motivate or hinder you?

Fourth of July Inspired: Hit the High Seas!

Well, it seems that there's a wave (no pun intended) of nautical inspired designs everywhere and I must say we're inspired. Not just for fashion but for stationery, designs and even wedding invites. Designers from Christian Dior to Viktor & Rolf have created pieces that set sail in style with collections full of classic sailor-inspired garb (think: nautical stripes, crisp white shirts, wide collars, high-waisted sailor pants and flirty flared skirts.) You can get the look with Parisian-approved blue-and-white stripes. Try a classic boatneck sweater, paired with navy or white pants and is a guaranteed route to an oh-so-chic ensemble whether you're on the dock, at the beach or walking the city streets! For a more formal and feminine approach, try on a striped maxi dress with a structured trench coat, or go for sophisticated glamour in a crisp shirt dress, belted at the waist. If you're more into subtlety ensembles, an easy way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe is simply by pairing items in the classic nautical palette--navy, white and red--together.
